WORLD CONVERGENCE

The world is the place we inhabit and the space surrounding. The world includes nature, our planet and the wonders beyond that, living things, seas, rocks, air and atmosphere, clouds, rain and rainbows, sunlight, moonlight, starlight and the dark. The world is ourselves, our family and friends, our societies, governance, institutions, buildings, art, traditions, languages and literature, commerce and manufacturing, farms and forests, fish and fishermen, boats, cars and airplanes. The world is everything we touch when we reach out and everything that touches us. We live in the world and yet we are the world. The world is our home.

World convergence is awareness of the unity of the world and connection between all things in it.

World convergence is an idea guiding action toward increasing that awareness.

World convergence is the destiny of society and civilization.

World convergence arises from the common awareness of our deep identity with each other and with all being.

World convergence is an idea which magnetically draws the directions of the world towards alignment.

World convergence is a lens which focuses many rays from the lights of the world into clearer vision.

This world includes those parts of all which we can name and find. I will name three primary parts of this world; they are nature, spirit and society. These three, which overlap, are all together roughly comprehensive of the world. Each of these and the interactions among them have many forms. Environmental responsibility, for example, is social regard for nature and it occurs because of spiritual awareness. There many such themes and they all connect.

The several billion people on earth form many social groups and combinations. Each of these societies has its own interests and goals, as does each person. However, many people share a common good will which transcends their individual differences. This points to convergent ends of mutual well being. At a world level we can name ends which most or all people of good will can share; these would include world peace, the elimination or reduction of poverty, protecting and improving the natural environment, development of individual personality as through education, art and experience. Many of us can also share directly or indirectly in the development of science, of exploration both natural and creative, technological improvement, ecological clarity, thought and communication. We can support each other in the development of spirit.

Each person is holy and has a fundamental right to life and happiness. These rights may be abrogated by God but must be sustained by society up to its best efforts. Only so can the civility and right order of society be maintained. Unless we strive for the well being of all there is rest for none. It is not a requirement for each individual to strive fo the well being of all. That would be the way of tyranny. Each one may seek their own good as they see it. But it is the fundamental responsibility of society as a whole to seek and achieve, in so far as God wills it, the well being of all.

A unified conception of the world will lead to coherent action towards improving and preserving the quality of life and being. Such a synthesis consists of two primary parts. One part is a drawing together of the threads of knowledge and action, focusing the understanding of many groups and individuals who seek each in their own way to help the world. The other part is having a central idea with which to make these multiplicities one.

In order to understand and help world convergence, we need to encompass all aspects of the world in our awareness. These are so many and so deep and various that it may be beyond the powers of any single person, so we must work together and combine our thoughts and efforts.
