What is the difference between AVE and CES?
Audio-Visual Entrainment (AVE) uses gentle pulses of light and sound — through an eyeset and headphones — to guide your brain into more organised rhythms such as relaxed, focused, or sleepy states. Cranio-Electro Stimulation (CES) takes a different route: very low-intensity microcurrents through ear clips that support a calmer baseline by encouraging the production of serotonin and endorphins. AVE works through rhythm and timing; CES works through gentle electrical input. They can be used separately or, on the Delight Pro and Premier, together for an enhanced effect.
Which Mindalive device is right for me?
The choice depends on which technologies you want and how many sessions you need. The DAVID Delight and Delight Plus offer AVE only, with 10 and 25 sessions respectively. The DAVID Delight Pro adds CES to the Delight Plus session library — popular with both home users and clinicians. The DAVID Premier is the top-of-the-range device with the largest session library and tDCS available as an add-on. The Oasis Pro is dedicated to CES (with optional MET and tDCS), ideal if you want stimulation without lights and sound.
How often should I use my device, and for how long?
Most people start with one session per day of 20–30 minutes, or 3–5 sessions per week. Consistency matters more than intensity — you’re training nervous-system regulation over time. CES sessions on the Oasis Pro can be set to 20 minutes, 45 minutes, or up to 3 hours, used 1–2 times per day. Some users do an energising session in the morning and a calming one in the evening. If you ever feel over-stimulated, simply reduce frequency or shorten the session.
How quickly will I notice results?
Many people feel a calmer nervous system, clearer thinking, or improved sleep after just one session. For more lasting changes, most users notice meaningful improvements within two to four weeks of using AVE around five times per week. Results vary depending on what you’re using the device for and your individual nervous system.
When should I use CES rather than AVE?
CES is well-suited for situations where you want a calming effect without visual stimulation: acute stress or anxiety (before a presentation, exam, or dentist visit), difficulty sleeping, low mood, or body discomfort. It’s also the right choice when light sensitivity, migraine triggers, or your environment make AVE impractical — for example, if you want to read or rest quietly during a session. The Oasis Pro is dedicated to CES; the Delight Pro and Premier let you combine both.
How does AVE actually work?
AVE relies on the brain’s frequency-following response: when exposed to rhythmic light and sound at a steady frequency, large neural networks tend to synchronise to that rhythm. By choosing the frequency, the session gently invites the brain into a particular state — beta for focus, alpha for relaxed-but-awake, theta for deep calm and creativity, delta for sleep, or gamma for cognitive integration. AVE also increases cerebral blood flow and supports neurotransmitters such as serotonin and endorphins. You remain fully conscious throughout and can stop a session at any time.
Can I use AVE and CES at the same time?
Yes — on the DAVID Delight Pro and DAVID Premier, AVE and CES can run simultaneously. The CES frequency will normally follow the frequency of the AVE session, or you can select the popular 100 Hz CES setting, which is associated with stronger serotonin release and is often used for relaxation, anxiety, and sleep support. Many users report that combining the two delivers a noticeably deeper effect than either technology on its own.
Is it safe? Are there any side effects?
AVE and CES are non-invasive, drug-free wellness technologies that have been used for decades. Most users experience no significant side effects; some may notice mild headache, slight skin sensitivity at the ear clips, or temporary lightheadedness when starting out. AVE uses flashing light, so it is not suitable for people with epilepsy or a history of photosensitive seizures. People with implanted electronic devices, pregnant individuals, or those with serious neurological or psychiatric conditions should consult a healthcare provider before use. Always start gently and follow the device manual.
Can I share one device with my family?
Yes. Families, couples, and clinic clients commonly share a single device, each running the sessions that suit them. Earclips and eyesets are easy to clean between users. Just make sure each person follows the safety guidelines and starts with shorter, gentler sessions before building up. For clinical settings, the Delight Pro and Premier are particularly well-suited to multi-user use because of their broad session libraries.
Do I need any training, or can I just start using it?
You don’t need training. Each session has a clear name, purpose, and duration — you simply choose a session, put on the eyeset and headphones (and ear clips for CES), and press start. Sessions end with a gentle Soft Off feature that gradually lowers the light and sound. For best results, use the device in a comfortable chair or lying down with eyes closed, pick sessions that match your goal, and keep brief notes on how you feel afterwards to fine-tune your routine over the first few weeks.
